GOAL 3

What: GOAL 3 is the third goal of Coach Carey’s program:

Goal 1: Make it to the start line – Complete the running program uninjured and ready to run on race day. This includes avoiding running to many km per week.

Goal 2:  Make it to the finish line – Sufficient training to complete the half or full marathon.

Goal 3: Complete the race in the time you want. – Higher quality running paces lead to faster race times.

Basic Marathon and Half Marathon Program

The basic marathon and half marathon clinic program is made up of three runs per week: tempo workout; speed-work; and, and a long run. Running three times per week helps to safely achieve Goal 1 and Goal 2 with a low risk of injury. Additional aerobic fitness is achieved through cross-training if necessary.

GOAL 3 Program

How: Goal 3 takes your training to the next level and adds a fourth weekly workout of a mix of aerobic threshold, anaerobic threshold and VO2 Max workouts.

There will be additional pace work during Saturday long runs.

The objective is not to increase your weekly km but to increase your weekly km per hour.

GOAL 3 is not for everyone as there is a higher injury risk associated with an additional day of running.

Who: Runners who have raced half and full marathons and are looking to race faster; qualify for key events, surpass time thresholds or run personal bests. For those who are serious about their running and want to race faster. A serious runner will consider all aspects of their training: strength; flexibility; technique; nutrition, heart rate, and strategy. Adding GOAL 3 to your weekly routine moves you to a faster level.

*Available Weekly Drop-In Fee: $10*
