MENTAL TRAINING STRATEGIES DURING COVID-19: HOW TO OPTIMIZE YOUR RUNNING TRAINING DURING THESE UNPRECEDENTED TIMES
On Tuesday, July 14th at 8:30 PM, Vancouver native and mental performance consultant, Shannon Thompson, will be joining us via Zoom for a 20 minute discussion (followed by a question and answer period) focused on optimizing Covid constraints for the benefit of our running. Shannon is currently based in Flagstaff Arizona, where she works extensively with top level distance runners as well as every varsity sports team at Northern Arizona University. Topics addressed will include current practices of elite athletes, motivation, focus control, listening to the body, and mental skills that can be developed during this time. Registrants will receive a Zoom link via email on the day of the meeting.
Shannon has been presenting ongoing weekly 20 minute focus sessions via Zoom with the Northern Arizona Elite pro racing team and the Northern Arizona University Cross Country Team (the top ranked collegiate team in the US since 2016). These focus sessions involve meditation and visualization, as well as tips to improve your mental game. If there is enough interest expressed from those of you tuning into this initial discussion, Shannon is willing to set aside a Tuesday evening each week to present these focus sessions to our Forerunners running community as well.
