About the Clinic

Kick off your fall training with Forerunners North Shore as we build towards the Great Trek Half Marathon on October 28th, 2023. This clinic includes Wednesday evening workouts (6:20 pm), Saturday morning long runs (8:00 am), a detailed training schedule, twice-weekly workout newsletters, email access to Coach Jerry, and a 15% discount to the Great Trek Half Marathon/10k/5k.
There are a number of participants in our clinic who have been training through the summer with the Victoria Half Marathon/Marathon (on October 8th) as their goal, so for Saturday morning long runs we will have 3 different distance options depending on the race that you’re targeting. For instance, if you’re training for the Great Trek Half Marathon, your long run on September 9th will be 12 km easy, whereas if you’re training for the Victoria Half Marathon/Marathon, your long run will be 13 or 25 km respectively (with the majority of the distance at the pace you’re aiming to run at on race day). For those of you training for the Great Trek Half Marathon, we’ll increase the distance of your long run by 2 to 3 km each week (with a shorter long run every third week) until we reach 20 km as your longest run 2 weeks before race day.


What Can I Do To Prepare?

As we transition from summer to fall in Vancouver you’ll need to come prepared for any conditions. It’s always good to remember that if you bring too much clothing, you can always layer down. You need to be prepared to complete 12 km for our first group long run on Saturday, September 9th. For the Wednesday night workouts, as long as you can run 30 minutes of continuous running, you’ll be able to complete any of the sessions. You create your own level of challenge by how fast you’re running. Although we’re all attempting to achieve our own individual goals, we encourage you to embrace the idea that training together in a cooperative and supportive manner helps all of us achieve greater things than if we were to run separately.

Meet the Instructor

Jerry Ziak

Jerry Ziak has been a competitive middle and long-distance runner since 1986. His passion for the sport began at the young age of 10 when he began competing on the track and over cross country in distances ranging from 800 meters to 5 km. Since then he has explored every distance up to the marathon at the national and international level and continues to compete as a masters (over 40) runner in cross country and on the road. He is an owner of Forerunners North Shore and enjoys coaching runners of all abilities. His particular passion is the discovery and practice of training techniques and daily behaviours that allow us to continue moving youthfully as we age.
